ELEMENTS OF THE MAOSHAN SYLLABUS

The syllabus of Jasper Lake Maoshan is one of the most complete among the major folk schools of Chinese magic and will take a decade of hard study and practice to complete. One must ensure you have both the time and the energy should you wish to pursue this Path.

Some of the essential studies in magical methodology for example include:

MAJOR BRANCHES.

Overall division into upper, middle and lower Mao.

These are specialist divisions that deal with certain areas of magic or with particular groups or 'registries' of spirits.

More generally speaking the student or 'dizi' will begin with very fundamental training as follows:

FOUNDATION LEVEL 0.

  1. Basic understanding of Daoism and history.

  2. Understand Wuji, Yin Yang, Wuxing, Ten Thousand Created Things, Branches and Stems. Bagua.

  3. Reading. Dao De Jing.

  4. Practice Six Healing Breaths.

  5. Practice foundation Golden Light.

  6. Familiar with Pure Body, Mind and Mouth.

  7. Spirit Water and understanding of Ziwei.

  8. Connect with Master Ritual.

  9. Keep a record of practice.

  10. Contemplate choosing a Daoist name.


LEVEL 1. THE FIRST HALL

  1. Second Stage Golden Light balancing Yin.

  2. Reading. Huang Di Nei Jing.

  3. Study of Talisman structure.

  4. Study of Maoshan method of activating the Four Treasures.

  5. Learn to draw and memorise several formulas for Talisman Head and Feet.

  6. Perform a simple talisman consecration of Purification and demonstrate the same.

  7. Study and engage in Yin Debt and understand the mechanics of such.

  8. Understand Replenishing the Treasury.

  9. Daily implementation of food and excretion formula.

  10. Gather tools. Altar, Candles , Incense, Taoist Robe and Cap, Sword, Chaojian, Cup, Bugan Mat.

  11. Understand the basic ritual of calling and sending Gods, Spirits and Immortals.

  12. Understand Opening the Gate of Heaven Step with correct mantra and hand seals.

  13. Several methods of Protection and Hiding.

  14. San Qing Magic of Light. Several formulae.

  15. Begin the Seven Colour Cloth practice.


LEVEL 2. THE SECOND HALL.

1.Learn to produce and or use Taoist Sparse Text and Tube.

2. Purification Ceremony.

3. Calling the Five Directional Gods Method.

4. Using Pure Mouth, Body in ritual context.

5. Transformation of Body Method.

6. Making Offerings. Protocols and transformation. Correct hand seal.

7. Maoshan Seven Star Step formulae. Can write a Big Dipper Talisman.

8. Eight Trigrams Stepping and spell.

9. Create talismans of the Bagua individually and together.

10. Knowledge of the Bagua mantras and meditation mantras.

11. Bagua rituals for luck, protection and wealth.

12. Maoshan Knight (XIA) Neigong. Qian and Kun Dao. Tiger Descending, San Cai aligning, Heavenly Spring Shower, Head in Heaven and Feet on Earth, Tian Mu and Huiyin Gathering Flowers, Basic Gathering Stars neigong.

13. Third Level Golden Light.

  1. Understanding the Yi Jing.

  2. Liu Yao Modules 1,2 and 3.

  3. Fourth Level Golden Light .
